In the newspaper comic strips of old when someone got a bright idea a large light bulb would appear above their head. Considering my age and memory I had to opt for a smaller bulb.

Frank Stella Painting in my apartment

I like regular photography, but I also enjoy creating images that can appear believable, but improbable, such as me having a Frank Stella painting in my apartment …which I could never afford. Basically, I just like to have fun with photography.

Big Money

“Big Money” takes on a double meaning in this image I created for fun. High denomination bills, which were technically termed Federal Reserve Notes, came in amounts of $500, $1000, $5000, and $10,000. One of my clients specialized in rare coins and currency which gave me the opportunity to shoot many items I never knew existed. The government stopped issuing these bills in 1969 as wire transfers between banks diminished their need. The rare $1000 bill is now worth close to four times its face value.

Appearances can be Deceiving

Using a 10 stop neutral-density filter and long exposure created the illusion that my car was exceeding 100 mph when it was actually going around 40 mph.

Eternal TV

This mausoleum is located in Oakwood Cemetery in downtown Austin. I transplanted a Direct TV dish and added some inside lightning. Surprisingly there are few mausoleums in Austin. 24-105mm.

Coronavirus Confusion

I have been so turned-around by this pandemic I don’t know which end is up. I just hope to survive it.

My apartment.

I am an apartment guy that doesn’t cook, and as a result have accumulated an extensive collection of date-expired canned food, Goodwill paper plates, and plastic eating utensils from Wendy’s. Although I live in a gated community, I felt my valuable collection might be in jeopardy so I switched out my apartment door for a Diebold bank vault door to ease my anxiety.

Big moon over Tipp City OH

In the film days before Photoshop the only “special effect” was mostly exposing several images on the same piece of film. I shot this about 50 years ago using a normal lens for the street and then exposing the moon with a 600 mm lens with a Teleconverter on a Nikon 35 mm camera. I wished I could have centered the moon better but it is moving faster than you realize.

Super safe revolver.

With lots of time on my hands I thought I would design a safety feature for revolvers that might make someone think twice before using. I visited my favorite idea store, Photo Shoppe, and came up with this design. It would also reduce ammunition costs. Stay home and stay safe. www.russmoorephotography.com

This photo is a combination of three images: the plane, the ground, and the sky. The plane was originally just sitting in front of an airplane hangar. Shot on film with a Pentax 6x7 with a fisheye lens.

Improbable elevator. I borrowed elements from several sources and combined them in Photoshop. Sometimes you just have to have some fun.

P-26 in my studio.

The P-26 is from the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. One of my favorite planes. It was the last open cockpit fighter with fixed landing gear and first flown in 1932. 24-105mm.

Safety first

Recently our three story apartment complex received this notification from our management /security team, “In an effort to maximize safety during the pandemic we will be utilizing the most sophisticated and advanced surveillance equipment everywhere.” Personally, I think they may have overdone it.
