In 1959 Ermal Fraze devised a can opening method, the “pull-tab,” which has evolved into the beverage can we use today. Fraze’s company, Dayton Reliable Tool, was a client of mine. His ad agency needed a quick turn-around image depicting their quality control so I found an available office close to the manufacturing area, set up my lighting and background, and created this image.

Clients always wanted to include their Coordinate-measuring machines (CMM) in their advertising. These machines could measure down to microns to verify that tolerances were being maintained. The operator would move the CMM head with its little red probes to check key areas for accuracy. Sort of looks like a video game now, but it paid the bills.
